A branch of the "Mens' Shed" movement - an Australian initiative designed to foster the wellbeing of men in the community - has been initiated in Bundanoon with the assistance of Anglicare, whose brief includes community health matters. An initial grant of $4000 has been obtained to assist in the remediation of buildings on a piece of land adjacent to the Rural Fire Service headquarters in Burgess St. A general-purpose basic workshop is envisaged, with a comfortable social area attached to act as a drop-in centre, which will be open as often as resources allow. It will cater not only to Bundanoon men but also to those from villages in the general vicinity.
The project is presently in the planning stage. The group is now four months old, and has completed several community projects. Please note that the club does not and will not compete with local tradespeople. Its activities will benefit the local community, or will be directed to appropriately charitable purposes. A grant of $2000 has also been received from the Wingecarribee Shire Council, and other avenues of funding and/or sponsorship are currently being explored. At present the membership numbers twenty. Meetings are held in the Bundanoon Community Hall at 10:00 am on the first Tuesday of every month - all interested men are welcome. Formalities are kept to a minimum.
